Easy Ways Of Treating Swollen Gums

Swollen gums result from many causes. In some cases, the condition is caused by poor diet, tooth misalignment, hormones, medications, and oral diseases such as chronic gingivitis and periodontitis. Some people experience the problem because of plaque and tartar. Plaque is a white filmy substance that is deposited on teeth and gums and when not removed, it hardens to form tartar. Formation of tartar may also be accompanied with bacterial infection which causes swelling. Catching the problem early enough is the key to treating swollen gums.

There are various risk factors that are linked to gum swelling. Smoking, medications, hormonal changes in women, diabetes, and genetic susceptibility are among the major ones. Although all are significant, smoking poses the greatest risk. Smoking also inhibits chances of successful recovery through treatment. Medications also cause the problem by reducing the flow of saliva through the mouth. With the reduction in saliva flow, bacterial infection becomes easier and faster.

It is not easy to notice inflammation of the gums It is common to have the problem and never notice it or get used to it that it is no longer a problem. Inflamed gum will always appear different from one that is not and knowing the difference between the two is key to noticing the problem. Either way, certain symptoms characterize the problem and can be noticed with ease.

When the gum becomes inflamed they change color. Typically, they become red, blue, dark pink, or purple. The papilla gets blunt or disappears while teeth margins roll. Some people feel severe pain or discomfort. When brushing teeth, some blood may appear in the mouth. Symptoms come at different rates or they may all flow in at once. Some symptoms may also skip and never appear.

The problem of swelling gum can be treated and reversed with ease without the help of a dentist. One needs to be dedicated, and maintain the right oral hygiene while eating a balanced diet. Eating a balanced diet and removing the harmful bacteria physically each day has been known to be able to reverse moderate and mild inflammation. A period of two weeks should be able to get the issue solved.

Brushing should be done using the correct toothbrush and must be done in the correct way. The toothbrush should have smooth bristles and should be held at 45 degrees towards the gum. Brushing should proceed gently often doing a tooth or two at a time. The tooth paste used should be recommended by a dentist. The process should be done twice a day.

Electric toothbrushes have a higher success rate because they remove a larger amount of plaque. Blue Light Technology has been scientifically proven to be effective at treating inflammation in the mouth. It removes bacteria that cause gingivitis, gum pockets, bad breath, and plaque.

Flossing is useful because it cleans under the gums to eliminate harmful bacteria. This may be done by traditional floss, water flossing, or floss picks. Unless underneath the gumlines is cleaned, swelling may never go away totally. Flossing should be a daily habit even in the presence of bleeding. Inflammation is reduced by rinsing using topical rinses. Topical rinses also remove bacteria that cause the inflammation.
