Eating is a very essential part of living. It is one of the most basic needs of man in order to survive, along with clothing and shelter. On the average, man has to eat a balanced meat of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals, and a little bit of fat three times per day to address the human need for nourishment.

Aside for it being a very basic need, food is also taken by some as a form of pleasure. They are eaten in between proper meals in the form of snacks. Sometimes, other people even wake up in the middle of the night to whip up something to eat. In the USA, it has also made quite an impact in the lives of people. It is considered as one of the most loved food by the average American. This is a staple in most homes, as they are a sure and fast way of having a delicious dinner when nobody has the time to cook.

Some people avoid the said food in particular, believing that it can bring about a lot of health issues. They say it contains too much oil and fat and is one of the surefire ways to gain weight fast. Well, foods that are taken in excess can really bring about bad effects, and pizza is not an exception. But, if you take control and eat just a slice, it can be good for you, and here are some of the many reasons why.

Tomato is rich in lycopene. According to studies conducted by experts, lycopene is a very efficient antioxidant. It has properties that aid in the development of a stronger and healthier heart. As tomato sauce is one of the main ingredients of pizza, eating about a slice per week gives you a healthy dose of lycopene in a very happy way.

Lycopene is also believed by many to be beneficial in the fight against cancer. It is also said that having an indulgent slice per week decreases your chances of developing cancer later on. A pizza slice contains enough lycopene to help counter the onset of mouth, lung and even prostate cancer.

Norovirus, known casually as the stomach bug, is one of the main reasons why people get an upset stomach. This strand of very infectious virus even causes vomiting and diarrhea, and is believed to be one cause of acute gastroenteritis. Very few know this, but a component in oregano, known as carvacrol, is known to be able to break down the said virus.

The rest of the basic ingredients also have their own contributions. Garlic is rich in vitamin C, selenium and manganese. Mozzarella has calcium, protein, and sodium. Olive oil has a unique property that makes it a very good way to get rid of bad cholesterol.
