Reasons To Use Virgin Coconut Oil For Skin

By Zelma Hurley

The all the overpriced moisturizers in the world, it is, as always, a pleasant irony when nature does what modern science cannot. The one new product which can moisturize the body, soften the hair, and balance the diet is an all natural, essential product that may be able to balance a budget as well. This extra virgin coconut oil for skin promises to be all these things.

Many might assert that they have tried moisturizers with an oily base, and it only breaks them out. However, this particular product is all natural and absorbs very well through the pores. Petroleum-based moisturizers tend to leave an oily residue which actually clogs pores and causes breakouts, but this product does not have that unwanted side-effect.

The average lotion most people use is a water-based product. It does absorb somewhat, and it can make one feel moisturized for a time. However, as the water evaporates, so do the undoubtedly over-hyped and over-priced moisturizing benefits of the product being used.

It is the women of Asia who have brought this particular product to the world market, rather by accident really. Asian cultures tend to be isolationist in nature, and so many centuries went by without the world knowing the benefits of these oils. However, as Western women, both from Europe and the United States, have spent more time visiting the countries of Asia, these little health and beauty secrets have gotten out.

These Asian women utilize this as a food source as well, having made many stir-fry dishes in this way over many centuries. Western medical doctors will warn against using it as a base food or ingesting it in large amounts, but the fact is, nothing should ever be ingested on its own in large amounts. An acceptable use in stir-fry, on salads, and added to tea can help balance blood sugars, increase metabolism, and maintain the body in a healthy alkaline pH balance.

It is extremely important that one find the raw, unprocessed version of this product. If it has been bleached, hydrogenated, or infused with an extra perfume then the product will not perform as anticipated. Finding a version which is organic and does not include genetically modified organisms is even better.

The fact is that hydrogenation, bleaching, and adding fragrances to a product which is intended to be utilized as a food source actually damages the liver. Because this is not necessarily sold as a food item, it might not be marked that these additives are totally foreign to the body, and tend to build up in the liver rather than being properly metabolized. When consumed, it is often added in small quantities to stir-fry dishes as well as salads or teas.

A small amount does go a very long way whether one is using it as a food or simply a moisturizer. The potential for savings can amaze anyone who is accustomed to spending large sums on their daily beauty regimen. Simply a teaspoon of this can moisturize everything from the hair and face, to the entire body including the feet; and may even replace all the moisturizers and conditioners a person uses.
