Resection is a method done to remove some colon parts along with the cancers and tissues attached.

A laparoscopic surgery is the process of performing laparoscopy which means that looking inside the cavities in the abdominal part using a special type of a camera or a scope. Incisions will be made in abdomen and the instruments will be inserted through the small incisions. The pictures of intestinal organs will then be transmitted to a monitor so the surgeon can see.

Another four procedures in the colorectal cancer surgeries are the fecal diversion, J pouch, ostomies or stomas, and K pouch. Stomas are openings in some parts of a bowel into the skin. A permanent stoma is made when stools cannot go through normal routes after a surgery. While a temporary stoma is made in order to keep away the stool from operated areas.

Fecal diversion is a process of performing ileostomy and colostomy. Ileostomy involves opening the parts in between small intestine and skin. Colostomy involves opening the parts in between colon and skin. This method is usually used as temporary measure to allow infection, surgery healing, and chronic inflammation.

K pouch will be attached into the anus for allowing the person in going to the bathroom the same way. It will provide a reservoir for stool and will add nipple valves for the prevention of stool leaking. This is not commonly used by surgeons since it involves a complex type of surgery.

The J pouch is made in the end of a small intestine in order to provide a place of stool before a person will go to a bathroom for the proctocolectomy. Many forms are under the ileal pouches. The J pouch is the very common form of ileal pouch.
