Addiction Is Hard To Overcome

By Ned Sanchez

Addiction to drugs and alcohol is on the rise. Many addicts that go through sobriety courses say that it's hard to stay sober for life. Most rehabs see their clients once every few years for relapses. It is estimated that only 15% of people that go to rehab stay sober for life. This means that 85% of people with addictions cannot stay off of them for life. This is a problem that is happening all across America today. Many companies are trying to find out how they can keep their clients sober for life. It is interesting how many people choose sobriety over a period of time because of their faith.

Bill Wilson was the founding father of Alcoholics Anonymous. Today, it has reached millions of people worldwide that struggle with addiction. Bill Wilson learned that he could only conquer his addiction with his faith. His faith remained strong because he had to find a reason to not drink alcohol anymore. The hospital that he was staying at for treatment told him that he would die if he did not stop drinking. He had a spiritual encounter with Jesus Christ that changed his life forever.

For many celebrities, rehab is a scapegoat. If their drug abuse has caused them to injure someone through their drug abuse, they often will enter into a rehab program for 30 days. This helps them to have less criminal charges brought against them. The courts today would rather send someone to rehab than to jail. Rehab is expensive and usually not paid by the addict. Inpatient care often costs $1,000.00 per day. Most people that go to rehab have good enough insurance to have their treatment paid. Many insurance companies do not have strict limitations on how many times you can go into a program.

Drug addicts often turn to drugs and people of faith turn to God. When addicts realize that they are responsible for their own spiritual growth, they often feel like they can overcome anything in their life. Giving yourself to God often heals the heart of an addict. It worked for Bill Wilson (founder of AA) and can work for you as well. It is important to keep a journal of your success. The more successful that you are in treatment, the better off you will be in the long run.

Many people that struggle with addiction say that meetings with alcoholics anonymous and other groups make them feel happy. They often want to bond with others that are hurting inside and talk out their problems. It is important to take charge of your life and learn to overcome the battles that life brings to you. Addicts often find it easy to talk out their problems with those that have been through a similar road as they are on right now.
