The Quest For Environmentally Friendly Food Packaging

By Eloise Hewitt

Human beings highly value meals on daily basis. Human life thus stands at risk from unhealthy meals that are on the prowl. Environmentally friendly food packaging and the practice of good hygiene need to be adopted in order to curb the problem. To be considered are a variety of choices. However, pollution is a monster which has to be kept at bay when making such important choices.

The reason why the environment can accommodate life is due to the presence of oxygen gas. Continuous and enough supply of this gas will ensure the continued survival of humankind. Materials that cannot decay are extremely detrimental to our atmosphere. Examples of these are glasses and plastics. Because of their non-biodegradability, the inconvenience they cause and the danger therein is immense.

Their effects can either be long term or short term. For the former, the biggest culprits are children who like playing near dumping sites. They risk injury either physically or caused by chemicals. Poisonous gases are also released from these sites that can make the children sick. The long term effects range from vegetation depletion to ozone layer depletion. All these problems could be avoided if garbage was disposed of well.

This is thus the rationale behind the safe handling of edible materials. When wrapping them for sale it is good to consider the duration it might take before they are consumed. Those that will not take too long before being used need to be kept in a way that the wrapping material is not wasted. It is also good to use products made of paper as paper can easily be recycled.

Although they fail to decay, chlorofluorocarbons like plastic and rubber are at times unavoidable. Nevertheless, care should be taken not to use them in excess as this adds salt to an incurable wound. Training and sensitization by the producing companies on how to go about managing wastes and disposing them off safely can go a long way in bringing positive change.

There is the tendency to keep food in cans of plastic or metal for quite a long time. Once opened, the contents are used and the contents carelessly disposed of. Such disposure needs to follow some procedure. There is need of a conventional plan for management of such a situation. For instance, trash cans can be put in specific locations. Once they are full the city council does the collection and professionally disposes them.

It is the air we breathe that determines how healthy we are. Dirt spoils the show and is therefore a nuisance. Preservatives commonly used release some gases. These gases are not pure given the chemicals that have been mixed with them. Their disposure thus require a high degree of professionalism. Quality assurance agencies have to go through all consumer products in order to ascertain their fitness for human consumption. Proper action is taken in case a violation is detected.

Man had a desire for creativity and this has prompted the creativity with which modern manufacturers package their products. All the same, there should be no instance when stipulated health requirements are overlooked. Human health underscores environmental beauty. Diseases should therefore be prevented at all cost.
