The Contents Of A Mental Health Directory

By Peter Schmidt

Many people are advocating the awareness of certain conditions that may affect the overall emotional and mental well being of a person such as anxiety or depression. Most people do not know, but conditions such as these are actually known as the silent killers that creep in to the brains of people and slowly drain them of life. Because of that, people may have access to a mental health directory in their state.

Of course, there are still many people who are not aware that these directories actually exist because the advocacy is still in its rather early stages of evolution. However, social media has allowed its presence to further flourish allowing more and more people access to contact details of centers and individuals to cater to certain psychological services that one may need during adverse times.

One of the most commonly called numbers that can be found in these directories would be none other than the suicide hotline itself. These hotlines give people access to counselors that specialize in suicidal individuals who, at the moment, feel like killing themselves. This number was given as a sort of emergency number to cater to these people who cannot control their emotions.

Aside from just the suicide hotlines, organizations would also contain the contact information of various counseling services in the state. It would give the phone numbers, the addresses, other necessary contact information so that one can set an appointment. That way, one can visit a counselor if he or she is having feelings of depression or anxiety.

However, if one would need professional services, psychologists and psychotherapists will also be part of the listings. Psychological clinics will be listed in these directories along with some individual psychologists or therapists. These are the individuals who can administer psychological tests and perform psychotherapy.

Psychiatric services will also be listed in the directories just in case one feels like he or she needs to have some clinical services. However, it is recommended that one does not call up any psychiatrist without a recommendation from a psychologist first. Usually, psychologists would be the one to refer their patients to a psychiatrist that they have worked with before or have met during their practice.

However, psychiatric centers are already provided in the listings. One may ask his or her psychologist if the psychiatric clinic or psychiatrist in the listings are recommended or not. In any case, it would actually be good to work together with the psychologist to get a good psychiatrist rather than just calling up the psychiatric services.

Mental health is a relatively new advocacy that people are fighting for which is why many people are still not aware of such directories. However, individual countries and states around the world are actually promoting these directories in order to reach out to the people who are suffering from conditions such as depression or anxiety. That way, people will start seeking professional help.
