A Review Of Instant Self Tan Products And How They Function

By Haywood Hunter

Instant self tan products are all the rage today. They ensure you get the greatest fake tan in the face of the earth without subjecting yourself to harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun, or their artificial counterparts from artificial tanning beds. Instant self tan products, or what is simply referred to as sunless tanning products have been in existence for quite some time now ever since the invention of cosmetics back in the 60s.

With technological advancements, these products have evolved to become a safer and effective way of giving an instant self tan effect that is both natural and very realistic. It is no wonder they are the most preferred alternative for fake tan effects than sun bathing and use of tanning beds.

There is a wide range of instant self tan products in the market but they are generally categorized into two. Those that work on the outside and those that are designed to work from the inside out such as the pills and tan accelerators. Before looking into details how each of these categories of instant self tan products work, it is important to mention something about their functionality.

No doubt instant self tan products will provide the much needed tan effect. What they will not do is to act as a sunscreen and protect your skin against UV rays. This is because the fake tan effect does not come with the melanin that often comes with the "actual" tans. Needless to mention, when going outdoors you need to ensure you wear a sufficient amount of sunscreen to complement your instant self tan and give you the darkened tan effect that you so much desire.

First on the list are cosmetic bronzers. These are instant self tan products that are known to produce instant effects that can be washed off easily using soap and water. They are available in form of creams, powders, and lotions. One thing that should be made clear is that they are more or less a type of make-up, simply because the darken effect only lasts up to when it is washed.

The other instant self tan type, and which apparently is the most popular among consumers are the sunless tanning lotions, sprays, mists, and creams. They are popular because they are FDA approved for use, and the results are always instant and guaranteed for as long as the instructions are followed to the letter. They contain the active ingredient DHA.

DHA combines with dead skin cells found on the epidermis to form a darkened effect that is natural and even. The interaction between the DHA ingredient and the dead skin cells will form an instant color change which lasts between seven and ten days upon application.

Most people are often concerned by the fast rate at which the instant self tan effect will last. Generally, because the skin goes through a series of wear and tear and ultimately regeneration, the fake tan effect is bound to fade off over time. This explains the reason why instant self tan products are affordably priced to ensure consumers can easily avail them and reapply as and when they wish to maintain the tan effect.
