Come To The Dark Side, We Have Cookies

By Evan Sanders

Going to the dark places in your life is scary. It is hard. It's exhausting. But despite all of that it's one of the most fruitful adventures you can attempt.

Why?

Because spending time in the places where your pain is holding allows you to finally start the process of releasing that pain despite how uncomfortable it may be.

When you go into the shadows with compassion and love and actually attempt to understand the parts of you that could be experiencing discomfort you give yourself the chance to heal.

Wouldn't it feel incredible to live a life where you weren't constantly torn to pieces by what happened in the past and instead lived in the present moment? Wouldn't spending some time with your pains make that trip worthwhile?

But how?

The best method to get to this place - the shadows - is by putting yourself into a very relaxed and safe state of meditation. When you start to dive into this place naturally your most major fears, troubles, and stresses about life will come to the front of your mind. Continue to breathe.

The skill that you are looking to develop here is to get close enough to the emotions of this dark place without becoming completely overwhelmed by them. When you can experience the moment without taking yourself out of commission you know that you are in the right spot.

But this practice takes a lot of time to really get good at. It takes some hard work. It's not easy heading into the shadows because it's a painful place where a lot of emotion is stored. But if you take this journey you will truly begin a healing process that will allow pains to release themselves from you over time.

The secondary benefit is that you get to unravel your past which allows you to come back into the present moment.

So make an effort to start the healing process by doing the shadow work necessary. Yes it will be scary at times, but it could really help you in the long run.
