In the United States, according to the Forbes travel guide and the AAA rate them on a scale of one to five. Michelin has been equated to three to five star as an indication of casual eating places. Inspections are there in all restaurants in all counties to make sure that restrictions are implemented and that standards are adhered to. They also seek to ensure that beef is properly prepared to curb the spread of pathogen like the E coli. Food should be stored in cold temperatures to avoid spoilage and this is one of the most violated inspection parts.

The sale of alcoholic drinks is perceived to be an activity of the bar and some laws prohibit the sale of such without any food.
