Basics About Circumcision Clinic In London

By Marie Russell

The tip of the penis is usually covered by a hood of skin referred to as the foreskin. When baby boys are born, parents usually have to decide whether or not they should have these foreskin removed in their babies. The process of having the foreskin removed is what is referred to as circumcision. A huge number of parents take their children in a circumcision clinic in London to have this process performed.

This process is more commonly done to children in the United States, Middle East, Africa, and Canada. Regions it is uncommon include Europe, Central America, South America, and Asia. In places it is most commonly practiced, the process is done for health, hygiene, religious, and cultural reasons. In Africa, religious and cultural reasons are major motivators than health. On the other hand, in the United States, hygiene and health purposes seem to be leading motivators.

Mostly, circumcision of babies is done within the first 48 hours of birth. However, it is not always that the process is done within this time frame. In some cases, it is done within the first ten days after birth. It can be done at home even thought it is mostly done in the hospital. Cultural, social, and religious motivations usually prompt circumcision at home. Medical practitioners who undertake the process in hospitals include obstetricians, pediatricians, and family doctors.

Before circumcising a child, parents are educated on the process and the risks it may present to the child. Anesthesia is not administered if the process is done only a few days after birth, and the complications involved are also minimal. On the other hand, adults need an anesthesia and certain complications may be involved in the process.

Circumcision may be delayed or foregone altogether if the newborn is determined to suffer from certain general or medical conditions. For instance, babies who are born prematurely may not be circumcised until they become old enough to withstand the process. This process is also not done to babies who are born with physical abnormalities of the penis.

The process involves freeing the foreskin from the glans of the penis, and then clipping it off. The whole process should last about ten minutes when it is done to a newborn baby. In adults, the process may take a little longer. Healing is also much easier and faster in newborns as compared to adults. It takes about five to seven days for the penis to heal in newborns.

There are several health benefits linked to this process. Some major ones include a decrease in the risk of urinary tract infections and STIs in men, prevention of penile cancer, phimosis, balanitis, and balanoposthitis. There is also a decreased risk of cervical cancer in female sexual partners.

There are also several risks associated with being circumcised. Some of them include pain, risk of injury, meatitis, irritation, bleeding, and infection. Although these are possible risks, they are unlikely to happen. In fact, the rate of occurrence is very low and they can often be corrected easily.
