Charlotte NC Chiropractic Care Methods Help Relieve Back Pain Safely

By Nelson Cozad

The back is made up of a series of small hollow bones called vertebrae. The atlas supports the full weight of the head. Below that is the axis. The rest have intervertebral discs between them, except for those which are fused. Each disc has a tough shell that contains a soft substance inside. They cushion the bones from rubbing together. There are a number of possible reasons for the back pain, as your Charlotte Chiropractor can explain.

When the back pain is beginning to feel excruciating, start on the path to relief by making your first appointment. A rising number of sufferers are using chiropractic care rather than taking drugs. Over the counter medicine as well as prescription strength may be addictive.

It is not wise to ignore pain. It is how the body signals that something is not right and needs professional attention. The sooner the sufferer gets help, the sooner the pain can start to subside. A thorough assessment of the condition is done before care is recommended.

Be prepared to describe the pain, when it started and what caused it, if you know. It may be disabling enough to prevent you from working. It may hurt whether you are standing, sitting or lying down.

Your spine and any other part of the body that hurts will be examined. Measurements of strength, reflexes and range of motion are taken. Your posture will be assessed as it may be exacerbating the pain. It is rarely the main cause.

The cause of pain may be due to a subluxation. This occurs when the vertebrae are jerked out of position. This may happen in a car crash or while playing sports. The misaligned bone causes pressure against a spinal nerve. If not corrected you may end up with a herniated disc, which can cause unbearable pain.

Chiropractic spinal adjustments are the safe and effective to return the vertebrae to the correct position. By doing so they relieve pressure on the nerve roots. They work by applying a gentle thrusting motion to the appropriate spot on the spine. The client lies on a table built for that purpose. Pain is alleviated, however, it does not happen immediately.
