Effective And Safe Remedies: Coconut Oil For Thrush

By Edna Brown

Oral thrush is a type of yeast infection, also known as Candida albicans. It takes on the appearance of white or creamy spots on the tongue or inner cheeks, and can spread to the back of the throat or other parts of the mouth. It is a common occurrence in infants, as well as seniors. There are several remedies, and coconut oil for thrush may be one of the most effective.

The lesions can sometimes be painful and even bleed if touched. Swallowing and eating are made more difficult. They often occur without any prior warning and can last a very long time if not treated properly. This is the body's way of saying that there is a problem with the immune system. This natural remedy is often preferred, especially for infants, because there are no prescriptions or potentially harmful drugs needed.

Coconut oil is a well-known remedy for thrush, because of several anti-fungal acids that are contained therein. These fatty acids are very effective at eliminating harmful bacteria and fungi in the body. Capric acid, Caprylic acid and Lauric acid can all be found in this oil, and they work together to help the body rid itself of thrush. Some of these acids are also present in mother's milk.

Most experts recommend extra-virgin oil to be used to treat thrush. Many drug stores and health food stores keep it in stock and it is reasonably priced. You do not need a prescription; however, it is advisable to speak with a medical expert first if you have any concerns.

It is extremely soothing on the skin as well as to your digestive system and can give immediate relief when it's applied directly to affected areas. Because of its moisture lock-in capacity, skin will stay smooth and supple, without cracking or peeling. Skin will not feel greasy, just moisturized.

It can be taken to treat the inside of the mouth as well. Take one tablespoon and allow it to melt in your mouth. Swish it around your tongue and cheeks for five or ten minutes, then spit it out, don't swallow it. Rinse your mouth out thoroughly with water.

Coconut oil for thrush has proven to be a very effective treatment and is highly recommended as an alternative to prescription medications that could have harmful side effects. Many people report that it disappears in just a few days. Keep in mind, though, that results will vary depending on the type and severity of the infection.
