Details On Alternative Lyme Therapies

By Virginia Turner

Lyme disease is the most pronounced tick-borne infections and has also become one of the most contagious diseases. Research has documented that there are approximately two hundred thousand new cases each year. What individuals do not know, however, is that Lyme disease can be transmitted via other means. These include through breast milk, semen and even saliva. In connection to this, the following is an article on alternative lyme therapies.

It is important to seek medical attention as soon as you begin to experience any symptoms or suspect that you may have been bitten by a tick. The doctor should be aware if you had visited any tick prone areas so as to carry out their assessments in the right manner. Diagnosis of this disease is however not easy as its symptoms resemble those of other diseases.

With Lyme disease, early detection is important as this is when treatment is easy. Here, the patient can be treated by the use of antibiotics without having to undergo the numerous laboratory procedures. Simple antibiotics such as Doxycycline can be used for treating adults.

There are times when Lyme disease may affect the nervous system. In this case, doctors administer intravenous antibiotics which have been rendered very effective for treatment. The symptoms do not however disappear immediately meaning that one needs to be patient. Also, this drug has several side effects such as one experiencing body aches and either mild or severe cases of diarrhea.

In the treatment of Lyme disease, the special groups include pregnant women and children who are below nine. In their case of treatment, Doxycycline has been ruled out for them because it has been found to stain the teeth of these young developing babies and also the teeth of the unborn babies. Doctors prescribe these patients with Amoxicillin and Penicillin. For those who are allergic to penicillin, Erythromycin is an effective alternative drug.

After the treatment of Lyme disease, the patients may be left with side effects as they take some time before they all go away. Most patients complain of fatigue and general body ache. One does not, however, require using medication for this as the symptoms disappear gradually without the intervention of antibiotic therapy. It may take moths, but eventually ones health will be restored.

Because most forms of treatment takes a lot of time, it is important for people to know how to prevent it so as to avoid unnecessary expenditures. One of the most effective ways is through the avoidance of deer ticks. Deer ticks are mostly located in wooded areas and also in grasslands hence it is important for one to wear appropriate clothing while passing through these areas. One should makes sure that there body is well covered up to lower the chances of being bitten.

Doctors advise that Lyme diseases be treated early in advance when there is still enough time for recovery. When a person waits until its too late, they may develop some serious complications which may not be easy to treat in the advanced stages as this is the best time to undertake the treatment since nothing much is spread in their body.
