What Drugs You Will Become Familiar With In ACLS Classes

By Ruthie Calderon

Medical courses are being offered to people these days. You can them them up either in the physical school or university. Not only in physical school or university, you may also get the online ones. Example of one you can take should be the ACLS classes in Houston. In this course, you get to know more of intravenous meds. Here are some examples of the intravenous meds you will be introduced during your class.

First, you can get to know more about adenosine. The said IV drug is popular because of its anti-arrhythmia properties. As an IV drug, this is one of the medications that are used for stable supraventricular tachycardia.

Another intravenous drug you will get to know when you are in the course would be the amiodarone. This is the kind of intravenous drug you will have to use when the person is in v-fib. V-fib is basically given when one's heart does not empty and there are contractions that are like mild quivers, not enough to sustain life. Not only v-fib, patients on v-tach or when one's heart is pumping too quickly, are given the amiodarone as well.

Atropine should be another one of the IV drug you can be taught about during the class. The atropine is an IV drug which is a known treatment for bradycardia. The bradycardia is known condition where patients suffer from low heart rate. Administering the atropine is done to block vagus nerves.

The epinephrine will also be taught to you. This is the kind of intravenous drug which is used to increase the cardiac output by briefly reducing the blood flow to a person's limbs. If the blood flow to a person's limb is decreased, then you can expect the blood output from a person's heart to increase as well.

Lidocaine. This is another addition you can add to your knowledge of intravenous meds. If you know more about lidocaine, then you can find it useful for treating the ventricular arrhythmia. This will then help your patients with the irregular heart rate. With the lidocaine, you can prevent the oxygenated blood from being circulated into the patient's body. An alternative for this is procainamide.

Since you are using procainamide as an IV drug for patients, this just means you also have to learn more on it. This is an alternative to lidocaine, after all. This is also an anti-arrhythmia drug you can treat to patients. It is effective in counteracting various arrhythmias. You can say that the procainamide is of the same effectiveness as lidocaine, promoting treatment for arrhythmias, so you should learn more on it.

Magnesium sulfate. When you have patients that are suffering from low magnesium, then this is the medication that are good for them. Of course, patients with arrhythmia can also be administered with the said intravenous med. It can be a useful medication against torsades de pointes, which is technically a rare ventricular arrhythmia. Magnesium sulfate is good for this condition.

You will also get to know more about vasopressin. This is the kind of intravenous drug administered so that the cardiac output can be significantly increased. It is also the kind of intravenous drug that is often used to improve the circulation to the person's vital organs. It is definitely an important drug to be familiar with when it comes to a particular medical condition.
