Basics On Psoriasis Herbal Remedies

By Janine Hughes

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. There are many different medical conditions that can impact the skin, such as psoriasis. This refers to a chronic disease that is common and known as a remitting and relapsing condition. It is immune-mediated and characterized by lesions in the skin. Psoriasis herbal remedies can be used for healing and relief.

Lesions that come with this disease may be scaly and red patches, or papillose or plaques that are itchy. These may be embarrassing because of their unsightly appearance, particularly in areas that are not easily hidden. The lesions may range from minor to major. Furthermore, this can develop in large or small areas of the body. The disease is known to affect people all around the globe.

Inverse, guttate, plaque, pustular and erythrodermic are the five main forms of this. The form and severity of this disease may influence the method of care that is used in managing it. This is recognized as a chronic condition, and may come and go with time. Every person is expected to respond differently to treatment.

The cause of this condition is not entirely understood. It is not a skin disorder alone. In fact, it can have a big impact on different systems of the body, which is why managing this is integral. Psoriasis is linked to a heightened risk of certain cancers, immune-mediated disorders and diseases related to the cardiovascular system. It is known as a genetic disease, but there are many of environmental factors that can trigger or impact it.

Essentially, psoriasis develops when the immune system believes the normal skin cell is a pathogen. It sends out faulty signs that then lead to the overproduction of new skin cells. This problem is not contagious. Sometimes withdrawal from a corticosteroid, stress or oxidative stress can trigger flare ups of this condition. Injury to skin might also create psoriatic skin changes referred to as Koebner phenomenon.

Those who want to take an approach that is more natural and organic have the option of using herbal remedies. There are plenty of professionals who can offer advice and guidance when it comes to this non-invasive approach to care. Before using any herbal solution, people are encouraged to consult with a doctor on the matter. They should also do their own personal research on this herb, how to use it and its potential effects.

A number of herbs and natural remedies can be employed for people struggling with psoriasis. These solutions include, but are not limited to: aloe vera, capsaicin, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, oats, dead sea salts, turmeric, and mahonia aquifolium. Things with antimicrobrial, antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties are best for relieving the many signs and symptoms of this disease.

No single solution is ideal for everyone. Still, many are interested in natural approaches to health care that have far less side effects and risks. Prescription drugs and other treatments commonly used in western medicine, may do more harm than good in the long run. It is essential that people learn about the herbal remedies they use, as even these solutions can have bad interactions with medications or not be recommended to people with pre-existing conditions, or those who are nursing or pregnant.
